On June 4, 1893, the day before their wedding, a Kroeger clock was presented to Peter Schulz and Anna Zacharias by the groom’s parents as a wedding gift.
According to Mary, Peter received, among other things, five Kroeger clocks in payment for his property. Did Peter consider the clocks a better currency than rubles, especially in the new country he was headed for?
Three generations of my family lived in Ukraine, in the former Soviet Union, which is where my grandparents got one of the Mennonite Kroeger clocks. It travelled with them all the way to Paraguay as refugees in 1930.
